Dear Mrs. Suman,
We would like to sincerely thank you for submitting your project as part of the 2nd edition of the Participatory Budget.
After careful consideration by the traffic service, we regret to inform you that, unfortunately, your project could not be selected.
Public transport (bus and train services) is organized and managed by the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works (MMTP) and its administrations. The City of Dudelange can only provide suggestions. The MMTP is planning to implement a direct train service every 30 minutes between Volmerange-les-Mines and Luxembourg City, starting in 2028, after the redevelopment of the Bettembourg station is completed. As this matter falls outside the city’s jurisdiction, your project does not meet the criteria outlined in the Participatory Budget regulations.
Given these circumstances, we are unable to accept your proposal.
However, we would like to express our appreciation for your initiative and your commitment to helping shape the future of Dudelange.
Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us by email at biergerbedeelegung@dudelange.lu or by phone at +352 51 61 21 – 1.
Best regards,
Félix Bonne
Enhancing Connectivity: Direct Train Service from Dudelange to Luxembourg City
Vun "BUDGET PARTICIPATIF 2024"
Gitt op de Projet
Dudelange, the fourth-largest municipality in Luxembourg with a population of 20,869, lacks direct public transportation connectivity to Luxembourg City. This deficiency hinders the basic need for accessible transportation for a diverse population. Currently, residents must travel to Bettembourg and transfer to reach Luxembourg City. Introducing a direct train or bus service from Dudelange would greatly enhance convenience for residents and reduce reliance on cars for commuting.

Hello, although I totally agree, just for information there is already an existing project. Today there is one direct connection each way a day during working days but as soon as the new line from Bettembourg will be completed there will be trains every 30 minutes to Luxembourg-City directly from Dudelange. All the details can be found in the National mobility plan: https://mmtp.gouvernement.lu/en/dossiers.gouvernement%2Ben%2Bdossiers%2B2022%2Bpnm2035.html
There is also a direct bus (507) from Dudelange to Luxembourg-City (Kirchberg) from Monday to Saturday.

Fully agreed! a P+R linked to a direct train line would also help reduce car commuting from France (which also goes through Dudelange to avoid the saturated highway)

@Olivier de La Guéronnière this is ideal yes. There is currently a project for a P+R next to the A3 motorway linked to bus lines. There are also existing small P+R linked to the train lines in Dudelange and Bettembourg. The latter will be increased to 1000 parking spots in the next 9 years.
